House of the Moon at Haʻena: Vaulted Ceilings, Hardwood and Slate Flooring; Teak, Koa and Bamboo Furnishings; Large Wrap-Around Lanai with BBQ; One Minute from World Class Beach
Hale oʻMahina at Haʻena (The House of the Moon at Haʻena) is nestled on a quiet street with ocean and mountain views. You can walk to the beach in a minute or less. When you pass into the northernmost section of Kauai’s Kuhio highway to Haena, you enter into some kind of parallel universe where clocks tick by just a bit slower in reverence for the astonishing natural beauty. Up here, nature’s serene quiet is broken only by the wild geese and other tropical migratory birds sailing by in the balmy ocean breeze, or the crowing of one of Kauai’s signature wild roosters.
Hale oʻMahina is a beautifully designed three bedroom house with high skylight ceilings, and blends quality craftsmanship with a tropical open-layout architecture style. On the second story you’re at eye-level with billowy coconut palms and have a magnificent view of the dazzling Pacific. The living room, kitchen, and dining room all flow together, imparting the house with a paradoxically spacious and intimate atmosphere. Vaulted ceilings, hardwood and slate flooring, and teak, koa, and bamboo furnishings complement the tropical ambiance.
Hale oʻMahina also features a large wrap around deck that’s perfect for sunbathing or BBQing, with views of the mountains behind you and the beautiful blue ocean in front. There is a king bed in each of the three bedrooms (one of which can be converted into two twin beds). There are also three full bathrooms, including two jetted bathtubs. There is a gas BBQ and a fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, perfect for the days you’d like to dine in. And there are nearby restaurants for the days you’d rather dine out.
Should you be tempted to venture out away from your homey oasis at this beach house, take a snorkel, mask, and fins with you, leave your “slippers” behind, and dip your toes into some of the purest, softest golden sand in the Northern Hemisphere, just steps away along the beach path.
This beach, just a minute away, is perfect for shelling, sunbathing, and all kinds of water activities. Or stroll a mile along the sand to renowned Tunnels Beach for more snorkeling and swimming. Haʻena Beach Park and Ke’e Beach are just 1 ½ miles north. Professional tow in surfers and foil boarders ride giant waves all winter long on the closest beach. When the ocean is calm and still, fishermen, divers, and paddlers abound.
For a longer trek of epic sight-seeing and paradisiacal trekking, the end of Kuhio highway, five minutes north at Ke’e Beach, is right below the Kalalau Trail trailhead–the entrance to a trail that is consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful hikes in the world by international adventure magazines. When you return home, covered in sand and Kauai’s signature red-dirt, Hale oʻMahina will welcome you graciously with deep couches and beds you can sink into with a book or DVD from the respectably sized bookshelves. Whip up some Mai Tais, uncork a bottle of your favorite wine, let your hair down and kick up your weary feet on the edge of a hot jacuzzi. E komo mai. Welcome to paradise!
